Locate Your Android Device

Ever had your device “borrowed” or you probably just mislaid it somewhere? While this has been available with a number of apps on the Play Store, Google has now included it as part of the settings the ability to remotely locate, lock or wipe your device.

Google Settings

First, you’ll have to confirm if your device has been automatically updated by tapping the Google Settings icon as shown above which takes you to the screen below:

Android Device Manager

When you see Android Device Manager it means your device is ready. Tap on Android Device Manager and proceed here:

Check both boxes. Checking the Allow remote factory reset box takes you here:

Erase data

You have to tap Activate to be able to wipe remotely. You can now log in to the Play Store with your usual Google details from your PC to manage your device setting to either locate, lock, make it ring loudly or; in wcs, wipe!

The service is available to devices running Android versions 2.2 and up.
