We receive mails and other correspondence from our mac users who have experienced difficulties in setting up or using their Hotmail account and other customised email account on Apple Mail. We have also tried searching the internet for possible way out or around this. We tried several options until we came in contact with a wonderful app called “THUNDERBIRD”.
With Thunderbird all you need to do is to enter your Name, Email address and Password. Once you have entered the necessary details, just click on the “Continue” button and wait for the program to search for EMail providers and Mozilla ISP providers.
To configure your mobile device i.e. tablets, phablets, phones and PDAs to fetch your mails from your email service provider’s server, you have the option to choose between IMAP and POP.
What is IMAP?
This simply means Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) a protocol for e-mail retrieval.
What is POP?
Post Office Protocol (POP) is an application-layer Internet standard protocol used by local e-mail clients to retrieve e-mail from a remote server over a TCP/IP connection.
POP and IMAP are two different protocols used to access email. POP and IMAP function very differently and each has its own advantages. POP is useful in checking emails from a computer that is in a specific location. IMAP is the better option when you need to check your emails from multiple locations, such as at work, from home, or on the road, using different computers.
Microsoft recently unveiled its renamed and “re-invented” web mail service and its called Outlook. Its like the old Hotmail but it now sports a cleaner and; to quote Microsoft, “modern interface”.
If you are an existing Hotmail user you’ll continue with your old log-in details and you can also create an alias from the Settings with the new ….@outlook.com address. So, even when mails are sent to your @hotmail.com account, they’ll be redirected to your @outlook.com address.
