How to Assign a Static IP Address in XP, Vista, or Windows 7

When organizing your home network it’s easier to assign each computer it’s own IP address than using DHCP. Here we will take a look at doing it in XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

If you have a home network with several computes and devices, it’s a good idea to assign each of them a specific address. If you use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), each computer will request and be assigned an address every time it’s booted up. When you have to do troubleshooting on your network, it’s annoying going to each machine to figure out what IP they have.

Using Static IPs prevents address conflicts between devices and allows you to manage them more easily. Assigning IPs to Windows is essentially the same process, but getting to where you need to be varies between each version. (more…)

New iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) For iPhone 4S Now Available For Download [Direct Link]

Apple has re-released iOS 5.0.1 (Build 9A406) specifically for its new-ish smartphone, the iPhone 4S.

The device, seen by many as a modest touch-up from the preceding iPhone 4, has been dogged with battery issues from the get-go, with many consumers claiming 10% depletion per hour of the A5-powered device.

The fruit company isn’t unfamiliar with post-release issues of its smartphone range; after all, the iPhone 4 gained worldwide notoriety last year when antenna-related issues saw the Cupertino-based company issue free bumpers to consumers in a rather embarrassed attempt to paper over the preparation oversights.
